A glimpse of the stole…

Published on Monday July 11th, 2005

In honor of our five year anniversary (I know, I know – we just got married! But we’re still counting from when we got together, and that’s five years today. More to celebrate, right? I love you, sweetheart!), here’s a wedding picture in which you can actually see the elusive Baltic Sea Stole. The pictures are trickling in from various friends and relations – if I get a really nice close-up, I’ll post that, too!

Osclara debuts

The FO’s are just flying off the needles here at Blue Garter! I took advantage of the long Fourth of July weekend and our lovely, if brief, sojourn in Connecticut to seam up Oscar/Lara:

See why I’ve been calling this sweater Oscar? Green, soft, lots of gangly appendages, lives in a garbage can (well, knitting bag)…
Would you believe I got more of a sunburn seaming a sweater in Connecticut than I did on the beach in Hawaii? Don’t mind the cleavage shot.

I finished her just in time to wear to the fireworks. And then, a stroke of good fortune: the weather in New York City was disgusting enough that I actually wanted to put on a sweater yesterday. Here’s my sorry attempt to take a picture myself:

Yep, I warned you it was sorry. So Osclara went to The Point for knitting with the girls:

I don’t know why the sleeves look like they’re different lengths here – it isn’t so.

The knitting meet-up was good fun, as always, even though I tragically had to leave before Katie showed up with the cupcakes. (Don’t feel too sorry for me, though – I was on my way to a birthday party where there were more cupcakes.) Stephanie and I were both extremely virtuous and worked on our second socks. Here is the first of Stephanie’s beautiful Koigu socks posing on the foot of the lovely Lisa (note the adoration on Lisa’s face as she loses her heart to this fetching sock):

I was happy to see that Lisa is back in the saddle with Pinkina, and delighted to meet Abbie and her beautiful Clapotis, which you can see behind the sock above. I worked diligently on the first of my apricot jacket sleeves, and I think I should have all the pieces done for this project soon. The tricky bit will be figuring out how to crochet the edging for the buttonholes. I wanted to use smallish buttons for this cardigan, but I think my gauge is too large, given the stretchiness of the Calmer fabric, to allow this. I’m beginning to wonder if I couldn’t just slip the buttons through between my edge stitch and the next one. I’ll let you know what I’ve figured out when I go button shopping later on.

Honeymoon knitting

Published on Friday July 1st, 2005

Since I’m still cooling my heels waiting to get wedding photos in a format I can use here, I thought we’d skip ahead to the honeymoon for the moment. I’m also still trying to work out a good way to do slideshows, we’re just going to stick to the knitting for the moment. I didn’t actually do all that much knitting, but I do have a sock and half the front of an apricot jacket to show for my time.

Yep, the Crusoe sock made an appearance on the beach at Hanalei Bay, a couple of blocks from the house where we stayed. As a result, I wound up with very fine sand in my lap the next two or three times I worked on it. Oh well. At least it didn’t have to wear sunscreen: far more sand stuck to me. Here’s the sock showing off in the back yard of Adam’s aunt and uncle’s vacation house:

That mountain looks much more impressive in real life, I assure you. The base can’t be more than a mile and half away. This was the first time we could see the top of it, which was usually under a cloud.

And I made Adam take a picture when I wrestled it onto my foot on the plane ride home (no mean feat in steerage with long legs, I’ll have you know!):

I kitchener stitched the toe on the subway yesterday morning, so we’ll be sure to get a final picture after I weave in the ends at The Point this afternoon!

I did!

Just a teaser for now – unfortunately I don’t yet have a digital photo in which I’m wearing the stole. And as I’m dashing off to work on my first day back in the city, nor do I have time for a proper entry. But I thought I’d give you something new to look at, anyway!

P. S. How great is my ten-days’ husband? First thing this morning, of his own volition, he did battle with the evil casino spammers who have been sullying the comments here. Yay! Soon to come: Blue Garter Purtification. Let’s jazz this baby up a little!
