Growth, in brief

Published on Saturday October 27th, 2007

Gah! Ten days gone without a post! Granted, I’ve been on the road, and I don’t travel with a laptop because I haven’t had a working battery in about eight years. But every now and then unexpected friends and relations reveal themselves as readers here, and it makes me remember that distant folks I love do check up on me in this space. And that makes me want to be a better, more consistent poster. This blog needs to become something more than it is now: I hardly know what, but I’m giving it some thought. I never remember when my blogiversary (should that be anniblogary?) is, but Blue Garter will enter its third year in the next few months. I want it to have more knitting content – more patterns, a proper gallery of finished handknits – but I want it to have more personal content, too. I want to improve the quality of the writing. I’ve meant to do these things for a long time, and my several jobs and mountain of knitting projects tend to interfere, but I know I could make more productive use of the time I do have. None of this, however, is your problem. So let’s forget the soul-searching for now and cut straight to the good stuff: squishy little edible people in handknits.

Hello. I am seven weeks old. My new hat is way too big for me.

And, dudes, I’m pretty sure my blankie is 100% acrylic.

Good thing I live across the street from someone who finds me irresistible and will knit me merino sweaters as fast as I can spoil them with bodily fluids and mashed banana.

Well, only one sensible thing to do, if you ask me! Quit your
job(s) and devote yourself to knitting and blogging!

(sigh) if only life were that easy, non?

you have just reminded me that i have to update and SOON! love the baby pics.. he looks content even with that 100% acrylic number.

the smile in that last pic is absolutely beatific! blissful at the thought of all those merino sweaters (frankly, for everyday knits, i tend towards machine washable whatever. poor new moms have enough to do without bathing knits as well as babies, lol)

could not be happier to read that you intend to post more. i already love your posts and look forward to any and all changes and new writings. and the babe is just baby-licious. so true, about the mess mashed bananas make…we are just discovering it over here in the bean household.

Where does all this guilt come from? Of course, it’s good to push yourself sometimes, but frankly, your writing has style, your posts come up regularly, and your FOs make us drool!

I’d love to read more of your posts but I know we all struggle with the quantity/quality thing and our real lives. As long as it’s still fun and not a chore, that’s the important thing.

Looks like you have a neighbor/test-model nearby who is very content to help you in your designs!

i love your blog for the quality of writing. and for your finished objects and for your observations. so do continue. but i know what you mean about writing style. was reading my own blog today and i thought it maybe was a bit of a mistake to write in english instead of my mother-tongue because it puts limitations to one’s quality of writing.
i have made knits in rowan tweed yarns and the can be washed on the wool programme (?). the busy mother didn’t ask just did it. and i think babies are so lovely in harsh tweed. and when that is said i love this little one in the hat and the acrylic blanket.

Aw, he’s a cutie in that oversized hat! The more posts the better; I love reading what you write. I know that with so much going on, it can be difficult. Especially since we all want to make quality posts – it’s tricky to balance efficiency with that quality. For me anyway.

oh my, what a sweetie pie.

I find your content in interesting and motiviating. Your projects give me ideas and inspire me. It can be difficult to spend time posting and editing. I think you do a great job, and I’m excited to see where you want your blog to go.
