It’s possible I knit too much.

Published on Tuesday July 10th, 2007

No one likes to admit to psychological problems. But this morning I found a cable needle behind my ear while I was in the shower. And it wasn’t that I hopped in, realized I’d forgotten to de-needle, and quickly rectified the situation, which is the way it goes with my watch. I was shampooing obliviously away, and then suddenly there it was on the tiles, wet and soapy and about to make a dash for the drain.

I’ve done about three inches of Brigitte, and I need to find a way to step up the pace. At this rate, I’ll only make it to the armhole shaping on the back by the end of the Tour, and that’s frankly not good enough. I need to get monogamous with this little gal, and I need to take her with me everywhere, not just to my butterfly chair between the hours of 5:30 and 8:30 a.m. Good thing the Tour footage is on again tonight, and Mr. Garter is going solo to the Transformers movie. (There may be more, much more, than meets the eye, but it won’t be meeting mine.) Although I may need to figure out how to drag the television across the room and into the bathroom doorway so I can watch and knit from the comfort of a cold bath, like last year. It’s over 100 degrees — ugsome weather, if you ask me. At least my wooden cable needles float.

Wow. I’m so impressed. I wish some new rosewood DPNs would fall out of my hair in the shower.

for a minute, i’d thought you’d slept with it there! now, with my hair, i have gone to bed with it in my hair.

you need to go needle-free with the cables! it will speed you up if you’re not reaching for a cable needle. seriously.

so far i’ve plied 8 oz of pencil roving (i’ll post pics tonight), done one bat of my fill-in spinning (it’s a coral domestic batt dyed by my friend, and i carded it on her drum carder (there’s like 5 batts, but it’snot exactly thrilling me (smells kinda sheepy), so i do one batt at a time, then move to something else for awhile, lol), and started some sockweight that i’m commissioned to do. whee!

and itwas 83 here. rare, indeed!

98 and humid, humid here yesterday. knitting in a cold bath would be wonderful. hopefully the quick trip in the shower didn’t ruin the cable needle!!!

My first thought was instantly of the cable needle – it’s ok isn’t it? No permanent water damage?? =)

It’s hot and humid here every day in north carolina – geesh, you start sweating the second you open the door!

that’s so funny. And funny that other commenters also tuck their cable needle in their hair or behind their ear. I’ve been knitting for decades and never, ever done that, and now I’m thinking I should go work on my cable project (it has a 24-stitch cable, so cable needle-free cabling, not possible!) just to check out what I do with the little guy between uses. I do remember once having it drop on an airplane trip and me looking everywhere for it, under the seat, under the neighbours’ seats, etc. — never did find it and perhaps would never have lost it if I’d developed some techniques involving ears or hair!
Love Brigitte, but there are many, many stitches to complete — Bonne chance

oh that’s hysterical. before i left for vacation, jonathan promised he would spread little pieces of yarn around the apartment while i was gone. so, yeah, i have a problem too.

That’s ok… One time I woke up, rolled out of bed, and found I slept all night, very comfortably I might add, on an Addi Turbo needle. I believe it was a size 1 or 2. I was very into the Magic Loop back then for sock knitting. I guess I won’t be taking the princess and the pea test. (lol)

I unfortunately saw Transformers (after my second viewing of HP on Saturday ~ we were jet lagged and needed somewhere with A/C just to vegge for a lot of hours). You made the right decision. I want those 2 hours of my life back.

You can never knit too much, btw.
